Grady White invented the walk around cuddy cabin family fishing boat and they teamed up with Yamaha outboards to make this class leader. Note the recess walk way in the deck all the way around the bow and cabin house. That makes this 232 Grady White a Walk Around model boat within the boating industry. Yamaha is a leading boating industry manufacturer of 4 stroke outboard motors. The match up makes a very good marriage.

A boat and motor combination is all about performance on the water. A 300 Hp single Yamaha outboard on the 232 Grady White power boat gives a best cruising speed between 4,000 rpms (about 24 mph according to the test) and 4,500 rpms (about 31 mph in the test). It is the right outboard match for the boat with these kind of numbers. The top speed at just under 44 mph at 5,900 rpms is far secondary to the best economy (at reasonable engine rpms) cruising speeds.

The boat by its self is 4,500 – 4,600 lbs. With the engine, some fuel, people, and gear the test weight was 6,711 lbs. On a trailer, figure on a tow package weight of 9,000 lbs. or so.

The hull length is 23’ 5” with a beam (that needs a simple wide load road permit) is 9’ 3”. The standard fuel tank capacity is 150 gal.

Grady White has won awards after awards for their good boats and I would be remiss if I did not mention this here.

While at the show, allow time to try your hand at the free power boat docking game where you maneuver a model boat in a test tank using a full scale boat helm into a marina slip. It’s a timed test, with offsets for bumping, that is a challenge for beginner and even if you believe yourself a pro boater.

A Grady–White spokesperson is quoted by seabuddy…

“…Aboard the Freedom 255, there is roomy bulk storage under the bow seating for all kinds of gear–you name it. The starboard console offers a big bulk storage area roomy enough for camping gear, beach toys and more. The stand up enclosed head area in the port console is roomy and convenient for a day on the water with the family. There is plenty of room in that head area for fishing rods plus storage nets and bulk storage areas… “

Seabuddy says…I test drove the last new boat from Grady-White in South Florida in Feburary and that one’s ride set a new standard for ride and handling for me in its class. This one should prove to be another class leading winner from the Grady-White…”

more to come in another post

Scout Boats power matches their boats to Yamaha outboard motors, and in this case use a 250 Hp Yamaha outboard. This set-up delivers a best cruising speed at 25 – 27 mph at a low (for an outboard) 3,500 rpm and a WOT speed that touches 50 mph.

Note the cockpit storage, under-cockpit storage, and the raised helm seat.

Also look at that bow rail!

The bow rider cockpit storage area also has a unique fold-out entertainment table that needs to be seen in person.

Grade White, with its unique SeaV2 hull bottom shape designed for them by C. Raymond Hunt Associates gives a ride that needs to be experienced on your local waters Its really different in several ways from other v hulls that in the first 10 minutes you will know you have experienced something special from a great boat builder.

Power one with the new, 4.2 Yamaha 250 Hp outboard and experience the next generation in four stroke outboards. Cruise at a whisker under 30 mph for best fuel economy and expect to hit 45 mph with the throttle all the way open, WOT, light load.

This is a new design (the Freedom 255) coming from Grady White. It’s a bow rider (or dual console, in Grady White speak) that comes with a motor well, not a bracket mount outboard design. LOA will be 24’ 9”, beam, 8’ 6” and an outboard motor 30” shaft length for a single outboard powered boat.

Yamaha’s new 4.2 liter outboard motor comes in at 558 lbs dry weight. Use mid-grade gas and get 250 Hp at 5,500 rpm. This outboard is a three star CARB engine.
